7月17日 Ge Lin:Development of specific biomarker: A new step for herbal hepatotoxicity(生命科学系列学术报告)

报告人简介:

Ge Lin is a full professor at School of Biomedical Sciences, TheChinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She also serves as Director of JointResearch Laboratory for Promoting Globalization of Traditional ChineseMedicines between Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy ofSciences and CUHK. Prof. Lin has been working on both orthodox drugs andtraditional Chinese medicinal (TCM) herbs for many years. Prof. Lin and herPK/PD research group have a long-standing interest in pharmaceutical researchincluding: 1) drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK); 2) pharmacology andmechanism of drug actions; 3) idiosyncratic adverse effect/toxicity; 4)herb-drug and herb-herb interactions; and 5) globalization of TCM herbs. Havingbeen trained in various disciplines, including B.Sc. in Pharmacy at ChinaPharmaceutical University; M.Sc. in Natural Product Chemistry at University ofAlberta, Canada; and Ph.D. in DMPK at University of Saskatchewan, Canada, Prof.Lin’s work on TCM focuses on integrating multidisciplinary studies, includingchemical analysis, DMPK, PD, and toxicology studies, for the identification ofbioactive ingredients with confirmed bioavailability and verified PK fates, theassessment of adverse effect/toxicity, and the development of quality controlof TCM herbs and their beneficial interactions with orthodox drugs. Prof. Linis also working on translational research. One of her on-going researchprojects is to develop biomarkers for the diagnosis and assessment ofhepatotoxicity induced by pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA)-containing herbs andPA-contaminated foods. Her team is one of the world leading groups in thisfield and has been well recognized internationally.
